Get Advice

"Plans fail for lack of counsel", - Proverbs 15:22 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs15:22&version=NIV

"What could be difficult or complicated about running?  You just lace up your shoes and take off!

That's how many people think, and to a certain extent it is true. ... But, that doesn't mean it is easy, especially when longer distances are involved.  So getting advice from experts and experienced runners only makes sense.  They can give insight and guidance in every aspect of running, from choosing the right shoes to knowledge of training programs and plans....

Some believers have the same simplistic approach to their relationship with God... so they may try running the Christian race on their own, with no outside input or help.  In doing so, however, they may be unprepared for what lies in their path, or they may take a wrong turn.  The bible offers several encouragements to listen and learn from others, as well as warnings about false teachers who will try to lead us astray."

Develop a Plan

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ - Luke 14:28-30 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke14:28-30&version=NIV

"Your plans for spiritual growth and for running need to be realistic, taking into account all sorts of possibilities." -- The Runner's Devotional by Dana Nieluchwski and Dave Veerman

Develop a Plan

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. - Hebrews 5:14 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews5:14&version=NIV

"Anyone can buy a nice outfit, register, get a number, show up at the starting line, cheer when the gun goes off, and maybe run a mile or two.  But only those who have trained by putting in the months and miles will finish the marathon.

That's the point of Hebrews 5:14....

To go from A to Z in the spiritual life also takes a plan, a training schedule."  -- from The Runner's Devotional by Dana Nieluchwski and Dave Veerman
